Health tech innovators Webtools and health informatics company BPAC Clinical Solutions announce partnership to provide accessible and equitable healthcare solutions that empower patients, improve health outcomes, and free up valuable time for clinicians.

The partnership sees the two companies combine their strengths, bringing together Webtools’ Centrik platform with BPAC’s Smart Care suite, starting with their Care Kiosk – a self-service clinical measurement kiosk for patients.

Centrik now powers five patient-facing apps, including the Well app and the recently launched Local Doctors app for Tāmaki Health. From the app patients can connect with their healthcare providers and access their health information, providing them with a modern and frictionless solution to book and manage appointments, message their GP team, attend video consults, and to request, pay for, and track the status of repeat prescription requests.

BPAC’s Care Kiosk is a self-service clinical measurement kiosk for patients that saves time for busy clinical staff. The physical measurement kiosk records a patient’s height and weight (calculates BMI), blood pressure, body composition, temperature, heart rate, and oxygen saturation.

Together the teams at Webtools and BPAC have integrated Centrik with the Care Kiosk. Using Centrik’s apps, patients can authenticate on the kiosk and use the self-service solution to record vital clinical measurements. These measurements are sent automatically to their health provider’s practice management system (PMS), saved against their patient record, and visible to them via their app.

Care Kiosks save valuable time for clinical staff, who on average spend 2.5 hours per day taking and recording clinical measurements. With primary care under significant pressure from underfunding and staff shortages, empowering patients to accurately record their own clinical measurements will help ease this pressure and improve patient outcomes.

BPAC and Webtools will be launching the Care Kiosk integration at selected Tāmaki Health practices using the Local Doctors app. For patients and providers, this will deliver a truly integrated and frictionless solution and will enable patients to complete their measurements prior to their appointment.

This is the first step on a bigger journey to integrate Centrik’s patient apps with BPAC’s wider Smart Care suite and to include conditions-based care plan activities. Kiosks could be made available from community-centric locations or at maraes, providing more equitable access. Placing kiosks at locations that are accessible outside GP opening hours, provide free wifi, and are on public transport networks mean patients can monitor and manage their healthcare at a time and place that suits them.

Consistently recording vitals over time creates a longitudinal record, providing a reliable baseline measure and highlighting when outlier measurements occur that require clinical intervention. As a proactive rather than reactive approach to care, the recorded data can help to manage ongoing conditions, as well as identify and monitor high-risk patients.

Working together, Webtools and BPAC Clinical Solutions are realising the vision of integrated and frictionless technology solutions that improve patient outcomes. Clinicians save valuable time and patients have greater visibility of their biometrics and health information, empowering them to own their healthcare.
